Response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton

“Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34

As of 10:18 am Monday, October 7, 2024, Meteorologist James Spann posted this update on his Facebook page, “LATE MORNING UPDATE: Hurricane Milton continues to rapidly intensify this morning; winds are now 155 mph. It is expected to become a category five hurricane this evening. The hurricane is about 720 miles southwest of Tampa.” This news comes just over a week after the devastation that Hurricane Helene has already brought to the Southeastern United States.

There is an urgent need to assist those who have experienced damage and loss from Hurricane Helene, and there is an equally urgent need to prepare to respond to those in the destructive path of Hurricane Milton. While this task can seem overwhelming, First UMC together with Summerville UMC and Seale UMC are working together to assemble Flood/Clean Up Buckets and Hygiene Kits for United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

Additionally, each church is accepting monetary donations to go toward the cost of purchasing these supplies. Continue to hold those individuals and communities harmed by these storms in your prayers.

On Sunday, September 22, 2024, Pastor Molly and Dr. RaEll Foster traveled to First United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama to attend the Episcopal Assignment Service for Bishop Jonathan Holston. The Service was beautiful, and we were honored to meet and visit with Bishop Holston and his lovely wife, Felecia. We are excited to welcome Bishop and Mrs. Holston to the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church.
